Esila Bitter Melon Mixed Herbal Paste takes its name from bitter melon, one of the ingredients in its blend, and comes in a 420 g pack. Bitter melon belongs to the gourd family and is recognisable by its ridged, bumpy fruit. As the fruit ripens, its green exterior turns orange. Here, bitter melon is combined with honey, grape molasses and other ingredients. Esila has been preparing herbal products in İskenderun, Hatay, for 30 years.
This paste is prepared with a honey and grape molasses base and contains no preservatives. Its ingredients begin with bitter melon and honey, followed by pollen, mastic and frankincense. Flax seed, sage, black cumin, nettle and St. John’s wort also feature in the blend, with grape molasses completing the list. The recipe therefore includes fruit, seeds, herbs and resins. Honey is generally associated with floral notes, while grape molasses brings a familiar fruit-based sweetness to cooking.
